This yarn basket bag was woven by a member of Kenya’s famous Kamba tribe, working within a fair trade cooperative. These Kamba artisans design each basket bag themselves, choosing patterns and colourways of their own preference. This basket is an original design with geometric woven patterns and tribal inspiration. Durable and totally unique, these basket bags are made from wool from second hand jumpers, woven around sisal grass. The weavers regularly visit the ‘gikombas’ (clothes markets) to select and purchase colourful woollen jumpers, which are washed and unravelled at home into separate balls of coloured wool – and then woven. When you buy one of these special bags you are supporting the revival of this creative art!
This incredible basket bag is a genuine one-off work of art displaying the amazing talents of these Kenyan artisans.
Each bag is completely different from the next and the small irregularities you may find come from the true beauty of being made by hand.
All the way from Kenya, with love just for you.
